Best Articles/Chapters BRASA Awards

The Best Articles/Chapters BRASA Awards recognize the best scholarly articles and chapters published in edited volumes in Brazilian Studies that contribute significantly to promoting an understanding of Brazil. Submissions may be in English or Portuguese.

For an article/chapter to be considered for the award, its author must be a member of BRASA and up-to-date in dues. For co-authored pieces, at least one of the authors must be a member and up-to-date in dues.

The work must have been published, in English or Portuguese, between January 2021 and December 2022, in a scholarly journal or as a chapter in an edited volume.

BRASA will award two prizes: one for best article/chapter in the Humanities, and one for best article/chapter in the Social Sciences. One honorable mention in each category is possible upon the recommendation of the prize committees.

To be considered for the prize, the author needs to submit this cover sheet with the information requested below and a PDF of the published piece by e-mail to the BRASA Secretariat at BRASAprizes@tulane.edu

In the cover sheet, besides contact information, authors should indicate whether they would like to be considered for the prize in the Humanities or the Social Sciences. Each member of BRASA may submit one single article/chapter (including the co-authored ones). The submission deadline is February 28, 2023. Two separate committees will be formed –one for the Humanities, one for the Social Sciences. Chairs and members of the committees will be chosen by BRASA’s Executive Committee in its regular Fall 2022 meeting. The Secretariat will send a letter to the winners and announce the winners through the BRASA website and digest by April 30, 2023. Winners will be recognized and receive a plaque at BRASA XVII International Conference at San Diego State University, April 2024.
